On November 18, 2009, the Government of Sierra Leone hosted a Trade and Investment Forum in London, UK. The Forum was by all accounts exceptionally well received by the more than 600 delegates in attendance, who represented a broad spectrum of Africa-focused investors and private sector participants. The event successfully delivered on its intended goals, including:
- Informing the global investment community of Sierra Leone’s stability and the richness of the country’s investment opportunities via presentations by leading members of Government, including the President of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma
- Validating the positive investment case for Sierra Leone through the endorsements of renowned international figures and investors, including the Rt Hon Tony Blair and Mr. George Soros
- Expanding in detail on the principal growth sectors in the Sierra Leone economy, through a series of sector-specific presentations and open discussion
- Guiding investors on the many options available for financing investments and ongoing business operations in Sierra Leones, as well as discussions on the accessibility of insurance and investment support offered by international agencies
Complemented by a private sector driven exhibition, and presentations made by businesses enjoying great success operating in Sierra Leone, the Forum fostered an environment for frank, informative dialogue between businesses, development agencies and government. For those who were not able to attend the conference, presentation materials are now available online.
